In 2023, I had the opportunity to design the environmental graphics and interiors for Eleven Productions, a video production company based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Located in an old industrial manufacturing plant in downtown Birmingham’s Pepper Place neighborhood, Eleven Productions needed a space that was both updated and functional while preserving the building’s heritage. A custom green wall with branded backlit signage, large scale glass graphics and a commissioned mural done by a local Alabama artist are just some of the elements that make this space speak.
A quiet room was designed for staff and clients to escape the energetic atmosphere. I wanted to incorporate natural materials with modern, industrial touches to strike a balance in the space. We kept the wooden high-vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and original concrete floors as a nod to the past. The large steel beams and minimalistic dramatic lighting combined with a high contrast color palette add visual interest to the project’s grand scale.
Designed to function as a theater and screening area, the conference room needed to make a large impression. The gigantic custom wooden table accommodates up to 12 guests comfortably. A large vinyl transfer of their tagline on the wall anchors the space.
With a staff made up of art majors, the upstairs mural was designed to be done in-house. Using nothing but a projector and some paint brushes, members of the Eleven Productions team hand painted the typographic design themselves. making the co-working area truly unique. A view of the entryway and kitchen from the mezzanine keeps the space open, airy and full of natural light.
A custom mural of owner Stephen DeVries’s first camera was commissioned to add the perfect personal touch. I worked with Alabama Cabinets to design the kitchen, entryway desk, upstairs co-working tables, and custom sitting/standing desks for the editing suites. Hexagonal backsplash, organic open shelving and stained concrete floors echo the geometric and natural elements of the brand.
